New tooth

He got a new tooth recently. It's the too right front tooth. I was trying to keep track of when it popped through. Sadly, I didn't learn it was out by feeling it. I learned because I heard him grinding it together with his bottom teeth. *cringe*

Cure the ills

I wish I could fix it, little man. First fever. Snotty nose. Working on lots of teeth (top right front and bottom molars) makes for a cranky baby. We will make it through. Eventually.

Clapping

He's been cruising more and more. He goes from one surface to another. Sometimes he even gauges the distance correctly and can catch himself. Others...well, he has lots of bruises on his face right now.

He just started clapping his hands together this weekend. Yesterday, he started getting some noise when he did it. He's thrilled with this and is clapping for more and more things.

I tried to get a video of him clapping. He just wanted to laugh at himself on the camera. Close enough.

First wheat

He got the last of daddy's baguette today at Panera. It's a hit!

This is the first wheat his system has seen. No reason to think it should cause any problems, but I still hesitated.

Poor third child

I think that will become a recurring post title. I keep thinking that I need to write things down because he's in that period of crazy frequent changes, but the time never seems to come.

Even now, he's waking up and I'm going to have to go get him to cuddle. Priorities...

Solids

Nevin was so ready for solids. You would think we had been starving him given the voracity with which he attacked his first spoonful of food.

I offered him the chance to suck on my banana a couple of weeks before his 6 month birthday. He managed to change the shape of the piece. A week later, I let him suck on a bit of avocado, but he didn't make much progress. On July 4th, we gave him some pureed apples and bananas and he sucked it down. He only ate about 1/4 of the jar before he was done, but he ate it quickly and eagerly. There is no tongue thrust reflex there. If he uses his tongue, it seems to be because he's done. He knows how to chew things around and swallow them.

At this point, he's sucked on peeled grapes, carrots, and blueberries. His favorite is still my banana. He actually nurses on it versus eating it, which I find kind of amusing. He definitely manages to eat some, though.

Since I can't stand solid poop diapers, I guess now is the time when I start wishing he was potty trained. Lucky for me, his poop cues are really obvious (like Ryanne's were) so I think I can make it to the toilet once he's sitting up a bit better.

Roller

Put him down on his belly and he rolled to his back. Twice. Tried to get him to do it a third time for the camera, but performance anxiety must have set in.
